Spinach is very easy to grow and can be grown to produce a crop all year round. Spinach is a popular crop due to the mass of nutrients they provide and their delicious taste. Varieties of spinach

Savoy spinach: More productive than the other two forms, and handles cold better than the other 2. they have thick, and very crinkled leaves, some examples of Savoy spinach: ‘Bloomsdale’, ‘Regiment’, and ‘Palco’.

Semi-Savoy spinach: Grows more upright than savoy spinach, leaves are less crinkly. Best of all, they are disease, and bolt resistant, some examples of semi-savoy spinach- ‘Catalina’, ‘Indian Summer’, and ‘Emperor’.

Smooth-leafed spinach: Very smooth leaves, easy to clean, common spinach in many supermarkets. Here are some smooth-leafed spinach: ‘Red Carnival’, ‘Space’, and ‘Wood Pecker’.

How To Grow Spinach

Sow seeds of summer cultivators indoors every 2 weeks in February, or directly outdoors from mid-March till the end of May. Do the same for winter cultivators from August till the end of September. Sow around 2.5cm(2in) deep, 30cm(12in) apart in open soil, or in a large container/pot. To ensure good growth plant spinach in slightly acidic, well-drained, fertile soil with pH of 6.0-6.8.

Once the spinach is around 7.5cm(3in) tall, thin 30cm(12in) apart, and make sure the soil is around 30cm(12in) deep. Spinach thrives in temperatures between 10°-21°C(50°-70°F). Water regularly, keep soil evenly moist throughout the growing season to grow spinach quicker. Fertilisers are optional, but if you want the best results, feed with a high in nitrogen fertiliser or a general fertiliser such as 10-10-10 every 2-3 weeks.
