There are many different varieties of cauliflower. Even though you can only find white, creamy cauliflower in supermarkets, if you grow your own, you can enjoy yellow, green, white, and even purple cauliflower. How To Grow Cauliflower

The main sowing period is from March-April, if you want an early crop, from January-February in a greenhouse, or under a glass jar or fleece. You can do the same from October-December if you want to grow cauliflower all year round. Cauliflower requires 70-120 days from seed to reach harvest, depending on the variety.

Sow 2-2.5cm(1in) deep, 5-7cm(2-3in) apart, in well-drained, fertile, moisture-retentive soil with a pH of 6.5-8.0. When seedlings are tall enough to handle, thin out to their final growing positions leaving 15-24in apart, and rows 24-30in apart. The seeds germinate within 8-10 days with a temperature of 7°C(45°F), it may take longer if the temperature is different. Cauliflower thrives in temperatures between 16°-18°C(60°-65°F).

Water regularly, keep the soil evenly moist, for best growth and head formation. Fertilisers are optional, but if you want the best results, feed with a high nitrogen fertiliser.
